The Path Beyond Resistance

The elder whispered in his ear: “Your secret name is Calibán…”

The path was blocked by a fallen tree, and the boy's first idea was to push.

He pushed until his shoulders hurt. He tried from the other side. He kicked the trunk. The trunk remained exactly where it was.

The elder sat on a stone and watched an ant disappear beneath a root.

“Are you going to help?” the boy asked. “I am,” said the elder. “I'm waiting for you to stop fighting the tree.”
